Chemistry, Rush Hour Soul

What happens when the vibrant Dundee music scene decides to stop playing nice and starts collaborating? You get “Chemistry,” the lead single from Rush Hour Soul’s coming album. It’s a track that grabs you by the collar from the very first second with an instant vocal grab, before a driving drum beat moves you along. The band has captured an energy reminiscent of classic Super Furry Animals.

There is a fun friction in the track, between its “Power Pop” exterior and the introspective weight of the lyrics. While the vocal melody is an instant earworm, the words dive into “darker moments” and the struggle to “shake away” the fog. Featuring the crunch of Stevie Anderson’s guest guitar and the ethereal lift of Nicole Ritchie’s backing vocals, the song builds a wall of sound that continues until it brings you in closer with a bridge two minutes later.

Ultimately, the payoff is an almost cinematic experience that ends just as abruptly as it began, leaving us excited about the full album. It’s a cracking introduction to a project that promises even more collaborations with local talent.
